“Success starts with Routine”

Straight from Jon’s big mouth…

If you want to succeed in any endeavor, whether it’s work or working-out, it comes down to practice and repetition.. The old adage “practice makes perfect” is an old adage for a reason..

However, focused practice only occurs when you build a routine around it. Without routine, life becomes chaotic. Routines help to provide focus. I see too many people frustrated that they are not making progress or reaching their goals. This doesn’t happen out of the blue. You need a plan and a strategic routine. Finally it takes execution.

By the way, this works for both creating good habits that lead to success and also for bad habits that plague all of us.

Think about it, if you have bad habits (and we all do), they were developed over time by repeating a behavior – (that bottle of wine every night after dinner, putting off a workout because your favorite T.V. show is on, eating crap food, or even repeatedly avoiding to update your resume’ and looking for the job you love because you are scared, or worse, comfortable. We put in great effort to repeat these poor behaviors that ultimately lead to bad habits. Even though we don’t like to admit it.

If we put the same effort to develop positive routines we will see positive results.

Here are my favorite tips:

  • Get it down in writing (i.e. calendar, To Do List, Phone Reminder with alarm)
  • Schedule the same time each day to complete tasks
  • Share your goals with others for accountability
  • Mentally reward yourself for completion (pat yourself on the back)

  1. Yes …I need routine when it comes to working out….Main reason that I go to 5.30 am class. Once that alarm goes off so early in the morning, I know what I have to do. Get dressed and walk to the gym…Monday – Friday. By 7 am, exercise is done and I can carry on with the rest of the day.
