My “Get Off Your Ass and Move” Rant..

Lately, I have been thinking about our outrageous obesity rate here in the good ol’ U.S. of A., which has me on a rant. Over half of the adults in the U.S (68.8%) are overweight or obese. More than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) are obese and (17%) of U.S. Kids according to the latest statistics from the CDC. Not overweight, obese….

I am lucky enough to work with clients that reach out and actually pay me to get them and keep them fit. These people all are very different individuals having varied motivations for getting healthy. Some are trying to lose a few pounds, some are coming off injuries, some just gave birth and are trying drop the baby weight, others training for an upcoming event, or just want to be on this earth as long as possible for themselves and their family.
No matter the reason, they are taking the steps necessary to make it happen. It all starts with one BIG step – get off the couch and move!

Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that it can be difficult and frustrating at times and we all have a fantastic list of excuses. However, there is no sustainable get-fit-quick remedy. It is a simple equation: burn more calories than you take in. Of course, good nutrition is more nuanced but the equation has not changed since the beginning of time.

You don’t need to read a book to learn to lose weight, find a friend and move. Move a lot! Push each other. If you can’t find a friend to move with, you can always pay Rogue Consulting Group.. Find a hill and run up it, walk up stairs at work, ride a bike, chase your kid. If you have to watch T.V., do it standing up – the entire show/movie. See how that changes the frequency of your T.V. habit. If you spend a lot of time in meetings at work, insist that they are “standing meetings”. You will immediately reduce the length and increase the efficiency of the meetings. People will be forced to show up prepared and get to the point. Nothing like a little peer pressure to get coworkers to get to the point!

The obesity rate continues to climb and so I’ll get off my soapbox, when people get off the couch..

Love Jon
